I want to renovate my house. Where do I start?

Researching online to get an idea of your goals is a great place to start. This will help you get an idea of your ideal scope and style for the project. Once you have a grasp on that, it always helps to tackle the budget issue head on. This can be tricky to do without meeting up to go over details with a builder or custom renovator. That’s just because internet or other general pricing is unlikely to take your specifics into account. It can also be tough to identify what that quote actually includes.

At Corinthian, the first thing we do is put together a comprehensive list of everything we need to evaluate to ensure the homeowner’s dreams are achievable. Once we’ve identified any obstacles and agreed on any necessary adjustments, we can begin choosing the pieces, parts and selections that will go into the project. At this point we'll be happy to offer suggestions and guidance based on current costs and trends.

But it all starts with researching your goals online and scheduling some time to discuss the project with your renovation team.

How do homeowners finance a home renovation?

The typical route to financing a home renovation begins with going to a preferred lender to get a mortgage and/or line of credit based on the value you've already built up in your home. This approach is quite common, especially over the last couple years, and plenty of great banks in town specifically gear their lending towards helping homeowners in this way.

I have detailed specifications in mind for my project. Can you accommodate them?

Probably, but it depends. We'll take a look at your specs to make sure the project falls within the scope of work we typically take on. Then we can advise you on how we would handle the renovation.

Over the years, we've found that it's nearly impossible to compare any two renovations or reconstructions, even ones with very similar scopes. That's why we make a point before giving an answer to go over the plans and ensure the job is something we can do for you in the way you have specified. If the specifications or trades involved in a custom project do not mesh with the standard of work that has helped establish our credit in the industry, we will be intentional about communicating that.

How long does it take to remodel?

This varies drastically depending on scope, materials, and timing. That said, remodeling in 2022 requires planning much further ahead than ever before. Even with adequate planning, there are still many things that can delay product shipments and time frames on any remodel.

The best advice we can offer is to enter into your home remodel project knowing that timelines are subject to variation. Be prepared to work as a team and find an upfront builder who will communicate consistently throughout the process. At the end of the day, the quality and security of the best built home are worth waiting for.

Do I need a permit to remodel my bathroom, kitchen, or basement?

Yes. Having a permit is advisable for any home remodeling job. This will save you from a bunch of issues down the road, particularly when you go to sell the home. The other thing is that nosy neighbors often ask questions about projects on their street, so it’s just not worth the risk of getting in trouble over something as simple as a permit. Moreover, having a local municipality officer approve your project should also provide a nice boost in project confidence, safety, and pride.
